Monica's Connection #5

Anne often portrays two personalities as the plot of Diary of a Young Girl continues. A more upbeat, kind Anne is projected toward others, while a more biased, judgmental Anne speaks in her diary. This is true with all teens today, and sometimes we find ourselves acting more politically correct toward adults than toward our peers, or people of our age. An example of this "false attitude" is when we receive a gift we don't admire or already have and instead of being truly honest, we say we love it to please the giver. This, commonly known as a "white lie," is a debatable topic, and is a common tactic used by Anne and many teens and adults alike today.

  1. Wow, very personal. I agree, though. The whole facade thing, in my opinion, is very common. Most people put these on to hide their true feelings to fit the norms of society.

  2. she is just a normal girl and even similar to today's children. She lies, gets mad at her parents, etc.

  3. I think the reason for these two personalities is that, when she displayed her regular personality to the members of the Annex, they griped and insulted her. After awhile, she was done with the bickering and she put on this fake personality, releasing her anger in the diary.

  4. I also agree with Luke. Since everybody thought she was being annoying, she changed her attitude and personality towards them and left her real one for her diary.

  5. She changed her personality to avoid conflict with other people because it was annoying her. And its very true that people have different attitudes to friends rather than adults.
